THREE fire engines are dealing with a fire at a disused mill in Bradford.

Fire crews from Bradford and Shipley stations are using large water jets to tackle the fire at Lane Close Mills, Bartle Lane at Great Horton.

The fire was reported at just after 9 tonight.

Last week a planning committee backed plans to build a new mosque on the site, as well as a boarding and day school, sports halls, shops, a cafe, a community centre and an Islamic garden.

But the plans, which involve pulling down a Grade II listed mill, will now have to be approved by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Greg Clark.

Tonight, a spokesman for the proposed development, who was at the scene with colleagues, said the building would be assessed once the fire crews had gone.

He said the fire was in a part of the mill which was without a roof and contained rubbish.

The spokesman said the fire was not a major problem.

"We are going to demolish the whole building. This (fire) is not a big issue."
