POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision which claimed the life of a Bradford motorcyclist.

The 57-year-old man was riding a red MV Agusta motorcycle which collided with a black Vauxhall Insignia in Ackton, Pontefract.

The incident happened at around 7.15pm on Common Side Lane on Wednesday.

West Yorkshire's Major Collision and Enquiry Team want to speak to anyone who saw what happened.

The Vauxhall was travelling towards Featherstone and the biker, who has not been named, was travelling in the opposite direction.

Emergency services attended including fire and ambulance.

Police said the biker, who is from the Bradford area, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the car was treated at the scene but did not require hospital treatment.

PS Ann Drury, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: "Investigations are ongoing into this tragic accident in Pontefract and we are appealing for witnesses.

"I would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision or saw either of these vehicles on this road before the collision occurred.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 3815 Sapsford at the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101 quoting reference 1446 of 4 May."
