A MOTORIST caught on camera performing a dangerous manoeuvre at a busy Bradford junction has been condemned by a road safety charity.

Brake described the move as "reckless" and said too many drivers have a poor attitude to motoring.

Another motorist caught the BMW driver's idiotic actions on a dash-camera and sent it to the Telegraph & Argus after his partner told him about our Stop The Danger Drivers campaign.

The footage shows the man waiting in his car at red lights at the junction of Legrams Lane and Ingleby Road, in Lidget Green, on April 26 at 3.15pm.

The camera captures an impatient driver on the wrong side of the road and swerving to avoid another car before sharply turning right. The BMW is believed to have passed at least three cars during the incident.

The motorist who recorded the incident, who lives in Halifax but works and drives in Bradford daily, said: "It was a bit shocking really. I didn't even know the car was coming up behind me.

"I was sat at the traffic lights and this car comes flying past me and then flies round the corner.

"It was extremely dangerous."

Alice Bailey, campaigns adviser for Brake, said: "Sadly, we see this kind of dangerous driving all too often, but thanks to technology we now have permanent evidence of their reckless behaviour.

"Too many drivers seem to believe their journey and place on the roads is more import than other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. This kind of attitude contributes to crashes, and we know from our work with bereaved families the devastation this causes.

"Roads are for everyone and we should all have to right to feel safe when we are moving about our cities. It's great that the Telegraph & Argus is continuing to run this campaign and giving this issue the priority it deserves.

"Our police forces must be given the resources they need to make road traffic policing a priority so dangerous drivers know they cannot get away with it."

The witness, who did not want to be named, added: "The general standards of driving in Bradford are appalling across the board. Every day I see something.

"It is shocking in Bradford. It is like being in another country at times. The level of driving appals me.

"I am a motorcyclist as well, but I choose to drive my van in Bradford instead.

"I have not got the confidence to ride a motorcycle in Bradford - I would rather have the metal cage around me."

His footage also shows the driver of another car impatiently encroaching a cyclists-only box while waiting for the red light to change. A third car then goes through a red light, turning from Ingleby Road into Legrams Lane, before the BMW's misdemeanour.

"There are potentially three offences in one 25-second clip," said the witness.
