People in large parts of the Bradford district woke up to a covering of snow this morning.

Flights were cancelled and delayed for passengers after six inches (15cm) of snow fell at Leeds Bradford Airport overnight, forcing the runway to close for part of the day.

LBA advised passengers flying today to check the status of any flights with their operator or online.

Sleet and light showers are expected throughout the day. Check the latest weather forecast here.

And the cold and snow certainly didn't deter pupils at Clayton Village Primary School from enjoying their annual May Day Parade.

The school revived the tradition of holding a May Day celebration last year, and it was such a success that they organised another for yesterday, expecting Spring weather.

Despite the wintery forecasts, the school was determined to go ahead with the celebration and parade.

After an assembly to start the day, pupils paraded to Clayton Park where they enjoyed the May Day staples of Morris Dancing, music from a highland piper and May Pole dancing, as well as the snowy coronation of May King and Queen Liam James and Leila Garrod, who had been voted into the roles by their classmates.
Office administrator Vicky Drake said: "We didn't change anything whatsoever because of the snow. We decided that regardless of the weather it would be going ahead, although we did have to do another risk assessment because of the weather.

"Everyone was up for it despite the snow, all the children, and a lot of parents came along too."

Met Office forecaster Helen Roberts said: "The remnants of the system that is bringing snow across southern Scotland and England will be lingering into Friday evening, predominantly in the north east of England.

"Mostly it will be rain showers and a wintry mix of snow, sleet and hail for the rest of the country."

Hail was expected "just about anywhere", she said, adding: "Later in the day we are most likely to see hail cause trouble on the roads if the ice builds up as conditions become slippery."

After a cold night on Friday, a keen frost is expected to follow on Saturday morning, although the best conditions of the weekend are expected later on.
