THE Bradford district will be bustling with activity this May bank holiday weekend.

The bright and colourful Ilkley Carnival and the excitement of the Tour de Yorkshire will keep families entertained and an independent beer festival and live music will offer something for the adults.

FRIDAY

The Bronte Parsonage Museum is celebrating the life of Charlotte Bronte with a special tour as part of the 'Parsonage Unwrapped' series, at 7.30pm. Tickets £15 / £12 concessions and Bronte Society members (proof of membership required) - includes a glass of wine. SATURDAY

One of the biggest draws will be the Tour de Yorkshire when its second stage, and women's race, starts in Otley on Saturday, at 2.20pm and 8.15am respectively. Cyclists, including Otley world champion Lizzie Armitstead and Bradley Wiggins, will ride a loop of the town before heading off towards Pool-in-Wharfedale and the finish line in Doncaster.

The Cliffe Castle Museum, in Keighley, will be unveiling its new Alice in Wonderland exhibition, from 1pm to 3pm, with Wonderland themed fancy dress encouraged.

Bradford Industrial Museum's new animal-themed display opens on Saturday. The museum, at Moorside Mills, Moorside Road, Eccleshill, is open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm; and Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Mondays from 11am to 4pm.

Cleckheaton's monthly Farmers' Market in St John's car park, Bradford Road, from 9am to 1pm.

Band Kascarade launches its debut album at a show at the Delius Arts and Cultural Centre at 8pm. Tickets are £6 on the door or £5 in advance. E-mail management@kascarade.com or direct message on the band’s Facebook page.

SUNDAY

In Ilkley there is an antiques fair at the Clarke Foley Centre, Cunliffe Road, from 10am to 4pm, and a food market in the town centre on Sunday morning.

The Cale Tyson Band will be performing at Saltaire's Caroline Street Social Club at 8pm. Advance tickets are £12 or £10, and on the door £12 or £13. They can be bought at www.theliveroom.info or by calling 01274 594021.

MONDAY

The colourful Ilkley Carnival takes place on Monday, with a parade in the morning before an afternoon of activities, including a dog show and the historic Black Hats vs White Hats cricket match.

In the Spen Valley, there will be traditional maypole dancing and country dance demonstrations from 2pm to 4pm, at Oakwell Hall and Oakwell Hall Country Park in Birstall.

Bradford Industrial Museum's Grand Day Out event, with children's activities, Viking warriors and birds of prey, runs from 11am to 4pm.

ACROSS THE WEEKEND

The Brew Haus pub in Bradford city centre, recently crowned the best pub in West Yorkshire, will be holding its Independent Beer Festival from Friday until Monday. There will be more than 30 ales, street food and live music.

Keighley and Worth Valley Railway will hold afternoon teas on Sunday and Monday on its vintage Pullman coach.
