A 51-YEAR-OLD woman who assaulted staff and damaged property at a care home has been made the subject of a Hospital Order under the Mental Health Act.

Sandra Williams, who has mild learning difficulties and a lengthy criminal record, was violent and troublesome on two occasions when living at Greenhill Care Home in Station Road, Keighley, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

On Christmas Eve last year she repeatedly called the fire service, assaulted staff member Jodie Shinkins and broke two phones, prosecutor Clare Walsh said.

She was on police bail in the early hours of January 10 when she smashed a bathroom window, ripped the fire alarm off the wall, damaged a phone, threw water at staff member Shamim Jan, spat at her and racially abused her.

Mrs Walsh said Williams, who was being held in prison, had an extensive criminal record that included racially aggravated offences, shoplifting and battery.

Michael Kennedy said in mitigation that she had mental health problems and a specialist hospital bed was now available for her.

Reports had been prepared by two psychiatrists and a probation officer.

Judge Jonathan Rose told Williams she was being moved from prison to a hospital where she would receive appropriate treatment.

He made a Hospital Order with a Section 41 restriction.
