A road on the edge of Bradford city centre has been closed by police after a spillage of emulsion.

Hall Lane, in Bowling, has been blocked off by police this afternoon.

The spillage is thought to be emulsion from a lorry, but is not believed to be hazardous.

A police spokesman said the road was likely to be closed until tomorrow to allow the road surface to be cleared.

The spokesman confirmed that an emulsion product had been spilled.

Police said the spillage was reported at 12.21 this afternoon.

A spokesman for Bradford Council said: "Highway engineers are cleaning up a spillage of paint on Hall Lane.

"The road will remain closed overnight until sometime tomorrow to allow the work to be completed."

A fire service spokesman said a barrel containing emulsion had fallen from its fixings in the lorry as the vehicle went over a hump-back feature in the road.

He said the liquid was "low hazard emulsion" but not paint.

"It is called emulsion but it is not paint. It is a low-hazard chemical."
