THE Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Joanne Dodds, will put on her trainers to take part in this year's Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k.

The run will take place on Sunday, March 13, from 9am, with the course starting and finishing in Centenary Square.

She will be joined in the run by her son Matthew, now 27, who had epilepsy from nine-years-old until he was in his late teens.

The Lord Mayor, who will also set off the runners at the start line, said: "I always like to give back for epilepsy charities.

"I will be doing the run myself and I like to keep myself fit. It is a lovely atmosphere for the race."

The current course record is held by Tesfaye Debele with a time of 31 minutes and two seconds.

More than 700 people have signed up for the race, with a field of 1,000 expected for the event.

Prizes will be given for the first-placed male and female runners, second and third places and in the extensive veterans' categories.

All participants must be aged 15 or over.

Runners will receive race packs four weeks before the event, featuring their running number and race chip.

All proceeds will go to the Yeadon-based Epilepsy Action charity.

To register, priced £20 for participants not affiliated to a running club, or £18 for affiliated runners, go to epilepsy.org.uk/events. The closing date for entries is Thursday, March 10.
