POLICE are appealing for information after an 80-year-old woman was targeted by bogus callers for a second time.

A man called at the victim's home in West Royd Avenue, Mirfield, at around 3.30pm last Wednesday, offering to carry out work on the property.

The victim declined, but the man persisted in giving a price and she later decided to go the bank and withdraw the money.

While the victim was still out, the man returned but was challenged by a neighbour and left empty-handed.

He was described as white, in his late 40s, of medium build, with dark stubble and a mole on his nose.

Detectives said they are linking the incident to a previous offence at the same address at about 3pm on January 21, where a large amount of cash was stolen from the victim by a man who distracted her after calling at the house offering to do work.

He was described as white, about 5ft 5ins tall, stocky, with short mousy hair that was combed back.

He was wearing a dark jacket and was in a white van with writing on the side.

Detective Inspector Mark Colman, of Kirklees District CID, said: "We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious around the time of these incidents, or who has had similar approaches.

"We urge people to remain vigilant and to contact the police immediately if they see anyone acting suspiciously in their street or calling at homes."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kirklees District CID via 101 quoting crime reference 13160063995.
