BRADFORD Council has prosecuted two people for littering after they were caught dropping cigarette butts on a city centre street.
Samantha Day, 36, and Scott Deighton, 38, both received fixed penalty notices for discarding the cigarettes on Kirkgate in April last year.
Magistrates in Bradford were told that both defendants had received two reminders giving them the chance to pay a fine and avoid the matter being brought before the court.
Day, of Roy Road, Bradford, pleaded guilty by post and was fined £125, with £195 costs.
Deighton, of Allerton Grange Drive, Bradford, failed to attend the hearing but an application was granted for the case to be proved in his absence.
He was fined £220 and ordered to pay £195 costs, with the sum to be paid within 14 days.
