A BRADFORD MP has written to HM Revenue and Customs bosses calling on them to create a new regional hub in Bradford rather than Leeds.
Last year, HMRC announced plans to close offices across Yorkshire, including three in the Bradford district, and open a new hub in Leeds.
The move would see almost 2,000 jobs lost to the district, with workers transferred to the hub.
But Bradford West Labour MP Ms Shah (pictured) said a scheme put forward by Bradford Council, to place the new hub on its Jacobs Well site in the centre of the city, would save the taxpayer £3m a year.
She said: "Following a visit to Bradford by HMRC officials, I understand an offer has been made that outlines all of the numerous benefits that locating in Bradford would provide.
"Bradford has already identified a site for the hub, has a proven track record of recruiting and retaining a high calibre workforce, and will invest in partnerships with Bradford University and Bradford College to ensure a new career pathway for tax professionals."
