ILKLEY Parish Council is to increase its community precept by more than ten per cent in anticipation of cuts by Bradford Council.

The organisation has agreed its budget for the next financial year, breaking the £200,000 mark in its anticipated spending.

The precept, which is charged to the local community in addition to its Council Tax bill to Bradford Council, will cost a Band D household £26 in the next financial year, an increase of £1.90, or just over seven per cent.

The community will be charged a total of £181,431 for the parish council's work, which includes spending on illuminations, awards to community organisations and projects, officers' salaries, a community fund, and celebrations for the Queen's 90th birthday.

The Parish Council's budget will go up from from £189,895 in the current financial year to £201,950.

A statement from the council said: "This small increase is to ensure that the Parish Council is able to protect services and facilities which are likely to be lost through forthcoming Bradford Council cuts."
