SHIPLEY MP Philip Davies, a prominent Tory Eurosceptic has criticised the Prime Minister's renegotiation strategy on the UK's membership of the European Union, warning that "we are not fooled and the British public will not be fooled by the farce of this renegotiation".

Mr Davies (pictured) today branded the renegotiation talks "choreographed" and "nonsense" during a Parliamentary debate today.

But Europe minister David Lidington hit back, comparing Mr Davies' "scepticism" to a notoriously hard to please Strictly Come Dancing judge.

He joked: "I have to say that his view of the 'choreography' seemed to have the same generosity of spirit as Craig Revel Horwood shows when assessing the skill of various Strictly competitors."

Mr Davies criticised David Cameron for not seeking to get the rebate back, adding it was "perfectly clear that this isn't a meaningful renegotiation".

Mr Davies claimed the Prime Minister had "already pre-agreed all of the things that are in his letter" adding "and so they have to choreograph a farcical row with all of these EU leaders".

As the EU referendum approached he added "we can expect (that) an equally choreographed agreement being reached one by one like a domino effect around Europe where hey presto, all of these EU leaders then say actually go on then you can have what you've asked for and the Prime Minister will come back saying this is a massive triumph".

Mr Davies was one of a string of backbenchers who spoke out during a Westminster Hall debate on the renegotiation calling for Britain to leave the EU.

He said: "If the minister and the Prime Minister thinks that we're all going to be fooled by that kind of nonsense then I'm afraid he's going to be sadly mistaken and I think he underestimates the British public if he thinks they are going to be taken in by that kind of choreographed, farcical renegotiation."
