LAST year was a stellar one for Bradford's billiards and snooker teams, while individually the city's players also did exceptionally well.

Bradford No 1's snooker side of Wayne Cooper, Kevin Firth, Mark Slater and Lewis Walsh retained the Yorkshire Inter-District League Division One title for a second successive season and, as they are leading the table again, are bidding for a fourth straight triumph in 2016.

In addition, Cooper, Firth and Slater teamed up with Bradford No 2 brothers Gareth and Anthony Green to reach the final of the National League Championships, where they lost out to a very good Norwich side, Cooper winning the player of the competition award.

The Bradford No 2 team had a poor season by their own standards, being relegated to Division Two.

However, they stand at the top of the table leading into the new year, and are therefore hoping for a quick return to the top flight.

Bradford's billiards side have struggled over recent seasons, but 2014-15 was a success as they finished runners-up to Leeds.

Cooper won his fourth Yorkshire snooker title after a 4-3 success over Harrogate's Gyles Behbood, and a ninth Bradford title, defeating Mark Slater in the final.

Cooper and Firth also won the Yorkshire Pairs Championship, with Josh Walker taking the Yorkshire Snooker Handicap title and Russell Morgan the Yorkshire Under-19s Championship.

Bradford Pairs winners, for the third time, were Gareth and Anthony Green, East Ward won the Hey's Trophy, Wibsey Liberals took the Hopkinson Plate, and Clayton Rugby Club the Moorhouse Shield.

Mark Hirst once again lifted the Bradford billiards crown, beating Steve Wilman in the final.
