AN ORGANISATION dedicated to cycling in Bradford district has launched a post-Christmas appeal for unwanted bicycles.

Cycle-Re-Cycle sold so many bikes in the run up to Christmas Day that it is now keen to replenish its stocks.

The not-for-profit organisation, which has a shop on Westholme Street, off Thornton Road, recycles old bikes and sells them at a knockdown price.

Cycle-Re-Cycle development officer Chris Evans said: "As is always the need just after Christmas our stock will be low due to Christmas sales.

"Cycle-Re-Cycle had many people take advantage of their low price recycled bicycles in the lead up to Christmas, with many children now having a bicycle or getting one that is the right size for them. And, due to the low prices of the recycled bicycles, parents have saved money whilst giving their child a bicycle.

"The problem now is that Cycle-Re-Cycle is low on bicycles to recycle and are appealing for people to donate unwanted bicycles.

"At this time of year people get new bicycles and their old ones are put in the garage. Then, months or years later, because they have flat tyres and have gone rusty, people take them to the tip.

"By donating them to Cycle -Re-Cycle they can be recycled and given a new life, and it allows someone to enjoy the many health, environmental and social benefits associated with cycling."

Mr Evans said that last year 835 people took advantage of Cycle-Re-Cycle's recycled bikes. This year, the number will fall just short of 1,000, he added.

"This year, approaching 1,000 people should have been able to take advantage of our low cost, recycled bicycles but, sadly, due to the low supply of bicycles, some may miss out.

"Hopefully we can encourage people to donate their unwanted bicycles so we can achieve our dream of having 1,000 people in a year benefit from our recycled bicycles."

If anyone has a bicycle to donate, Cycle-Re-Cycle will be open today, tomorrow and Thursday, and then from January 2.

Its opening times are 12.30pm to 5.30pm. Anyone who needs any more information and who wants to learn more about the organisation, contact 07835 840989.
