A GROUP of charities and businesses in Bradford have united to offer Christmas dinner hampers to refugee families in the city.

The hampers include turkey replaced by chicken but they also feature soup, roast potatoes and sprouts.

They have been funded by Council for Mosques, Muslim Hands, MyLahore and JW Young Butchers.

They were handed over at the Khidmat Centre, Spencer Road, Bradford.

The packs were then distributed to the families through churches in Bradford.

Organisers filled up the hampers for refugee families after recognising the difficult challenges facing them, including economic, and held the scheme to help them enjoy a family Christmas.

Ishtiaq Ahmed, Council for Mosques spokesman, said: "We want to make refugee families welcome. It might be their first Christmas in Bradford.

"The hampers give us the refugee families an opportunity to celebrate as a family in their own homes."

This will be followed by a Christmas Day dinner at the Khidmat Centre, which will be provided to elderly people living alone in Bradford.

Mr Ahmed added: "The Christmas Day meal is always good fun. We do it every year, they are very loving people."
