YOUNG eye cancer survivor Eliza Deakin and her mum Lucy performed the official opening of the new Vision Express store in Bradford's Broadway shopping centre.

Eliza, 3, who is an ambassador for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust, was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer known as retinoblastoma, at just two months old. Since then she has undergone extensive treatment in order to save her sight, including intra-vitreal chemotherapy, which involves the injection of drugs directly into the eyes.

She is still undergoing treatment at the Royal London Hospital.

Eliza and Lucy joined Vision Express store manager Vicki Stone and assistant manager Adam Rushton for the official ribbon cutting, to celebrate the launch of the new store which houses state-of-the-art examining equipment.

Store manager Vicki Stone said: “It was an absolute honour to have Eliza along to our store to perform the ceremonial ribbon-cutting on behalf of the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust. We are all really excited to start using the new equipment in store and the whole team are looking forward to welcoming the public through our doors.”

Vision Express offers an eye examination to best practice guidelines of the College of Optometrists, with each optometrist being a qualified eye health professional.
