BRADFORD is to benefit from new Government-backed schemes to develop advanced manufacturing - with the prospect of 12,000 new jobs in West Yorkshire.

One of the new Enterprise Zones announced by Chancellor George Osborne in his Autumn Statement will cover parts of the city .

The M62 Corridor Enterprise Zone will include Gain Lane, Parry Lane and Staithgate Lane as well as Clifton Business Park in Calderdale. Areas of Kirklees and Wakefield are also included.

Roger Marsh, chairman of the Leeds city region Local Enterprise Partnership, said the Chancellor had responded to its bid for local Enterprise Zone .

He said: “The advanced and innovative manufacturing opportunities along the M62 corridor give us a unique offering to potential investors and businesses looking to benefit from the advantages of locating on an Enterprise Zone.

"With the Leeds City Region boasting the largest number of manufacturing jobs in the country, these sites will support the wider manufacturing and logistics sector with up to 100 per cent business rate discount or 100 per cent Enhanced Capital Allowances to businesses making large investment on qualifying plant and machinery costs.

“This announcement builds on the City Region’s already robust offering of business locations which includes the Bradford City Centre Growth Zone which recently welcomed the arrival of The Broadway shopping centre by Westfield.

“We expect the latest Enterprise Zone incentives to commence from 2017 and that these will accelerate the delivery of over 100 new or expanded businesses in the region, resulting in the creation of 12,000 new jobs."

James Wharton, Minister for Local Growth and the Northern Powerhouse said: “ This new round of Enterprise Zones – which includes seven new zones in the Northern Powerhouse - will mean even more areas and businesses will be able to benefit from the support they bring.”

Meanwhile, Bradford companies can find out how to win a share of £1 billion of work on new transport and infrastructure projects at a meet the buyer an event on Friday December 4 in Wakefield .

They will meet teams managing transport schemes being developed by West Yorkshire Combined Authority through its £1billion Growth Deal Transport Fund.

Councillor David Green, Bradford Council leader, said: "This event is a great opportunity for businesses in the Bradford district to find out if they could get some of the £1 billion of work being commissioned by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and register as a supplier for its transport schemes. Small and medium sized businesses could play a part and every stage of the supply chain from legal firms to construction contractors ."
