A HUNDRED and twenty primary school students from Eldwick and Crossflatts will visit Bingley Grammar School tomorrow to take part in a morning of experiments to honour its famous old boy, astronomer Sir Fred Hoyle.

The event marks the centenary of the eminent scientist, who coined the term 'The Big Bang' in his own explanation of the birth of the universe.

Pupils will take part in a treasure hunt to find out about his work, watch hydrogen and helium balloons explode, make rockets and many other fun scientific activities.

"The days events mark the centenary of Sir Fred Hoyle (an old boy of Bingley Grammar School) but also we hope it will ignite students' interest in Science before arriving at upper school.

A public lecture on comets takes place in the evening given by one of Sir Fred's former pupils, Chandra Wickramasinghe. The lecture is free, but tickets need to booked on 01274 807703 during school hours.
