Police officers from Bradford District will join family and friends today in remembering PC Sharon Beshenivsky on the tenth anniversary of her death.

A memorial service will take place in Norfolk Gardens in Bradford city centre from 3.10pm, where the Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Joanne Dodds and Bradford District Commander Chief Superintendent Simon Atkin will give short speeches.

A minute's silence will be observed at 3.25pm - the time of the call to the travel agents in Morley Street, Bradford, where PC Beshenivsky was shot and fatally wounded attending a robbery.

Flowers will then be laid at PC Beshenivsky's memorial as the service draws to a close.

Members of the public and the media are welcome to attend the service.

Chief Superintendent Simon Atkin, said: "The memorial service for family, friends, colleagues and community members from across Bradford is to ensure that we can collectively come together to remember Police Constable 6410 Sharon Beshenivsky.

"Our thoughts are still with Paul and his family as we recall that fateful day ten years ago when Sharon was killed in the line of duty. We come together as friends within the police family to reflect and support as we ensure that Sharon will not be forgotten."

Flowers will be laid at PC Beshenivsky's memorial where the Lord Mayor will lay flowers on behalf of the district.

Councillor Dodds said: "The selflessness and dedication to duty that Sharon showed that day, is mirrored by Officers and Police Community Support Officers in the way they safeguard the public and uphold the rule of law every day.

"Sharon made the ultimate sacrifice and gave her life protecting us and ensuring we could continue to enjoy the liberty, freedom and way of life we all value so dearly. The people of the Bradford district keenly appreciate and respect our serving police officers and the risks they face daily in carrying out their duties.”
