A PRIMARY school in Bradford is celebrating with the official opening of a new multi-use games area.

St Stephen's Primary School in West Bowling applied for funding to Wooden Spoon, a charity that helps children and young people through rugby.

The successful bid for £6,785 has helped pay for part of the playground development.

A playground has been resurfaced, a multi-active skills wall installed and extra playground markings have been added.

Bradford Bull's chief executive Robbie Hunter-Paul helped the pupils, aged seven to 11, celebrate the official opening of the area.

It is designed to provide students with the opportunity to play and have fun while developing health, learning and social skills.

Head teacher Denise Waterhouse said: "We are delighted with the new Multi Use Games Area in our school. The children can now play games that they could not previously in our restricted playground area.

"Wooden Spoon has enabled children in West Bowling to have access to this high quality provision both during and after school hours.

"We look forward to many years of use."
