Let's Sing Community Choir chairman David Bottomley said: "The money means we can keep our wonderful musical director Heather Coulton and hopefully attract more people to come and join us. There's lots of benefits to singing but one of the best ones is good health. We've got quite a few people with breathing difficulties who feel lots better after they've had a sing."

The choir meets on Wednesdays from 1.45pm to 3.45pm at Eccleshill Mechanics Institute.

Lyn Cole, Big Lottery Fund, England Grant Making Director, said: "It’s really great to see these projects making a positive difference to people’s lives, whether that’s through helping young people to lead better lives or supporting people to learn new skills to improve their money situation. These projects are all strong examples of empowering people facing a range of challenges to play an active role in their community."
