A KEIGHLEY woman successfully turned her 75th birthday celebrations into a fundraiser for Manorlands.

Vicky Dodgson, of Oakworth Road, staged her party in aid of the hospice at Keighley Rugby Union Football Club, in Utley, on Friday.

About 60 people attended the occasion, which included a meal, songs, auctions and raffles. Mrs Dodgson said the event raised at least £1,100, with more cash still coming in.

She paid tribute to fellow members of her church – Keighley Spiritualist Church in Heber Street – who helped her put on the event.

"It went absolutely brilliantly," she said. "We had a lovely meal, with a buffet and pudding, along with free wine.

"The husband of one of my best friends sang for us, and we held a toast for friends old and new, and for those who are sadly no longer with us.

"I'd gone round businesses in Keighley, Bingley, Steeton and Silsden for prizes and vouchers for the auction and raffle.

"The venue was fabulous and the staff bent over backwards for us.

"Manorlands is an amazing local cause. I've raised money for Manorlands before, back when I had my 70th birthday – I asked for donations to the hospice instead of presents, cards or flowers."
