A 59-YEAR-OLD man has pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to his ex-partner during an argument over a windscreen wiper on the Halfords car park in Bradford.

Edward Thornton, who wore a red bow tie for his court appearance today, had waited all night outside the building to avoid being late.

Thornton, of Mill Street, Dolgellau, North Wales, pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on Natalie Johnson outside the auto business, on Valley Road, on April 11.

Miss Johnson suffered a fractured shoulder when Thornton pushed her to the ground.

His barrister, Stephen Uttley, told Bradford Crown Court he lost his temper with Miss Johnson.

"He spent the night sitting outside the court building ready for the case to be called on," Mr Uttley said.

Grey-haired, bespectacled, Thornton was bailed to appear back at the court for sentence on November 26 after the preparation of a probation report.

Judge David Hatton QC told him he must not contact Miss Johnson or go near the street where she lives.
