A POST Office could double its opening hours and begin Sunday trading under proposals being put forward.

The branch in Town Street, Rawdon, could also be moved to new premises 20 metres away as part of the plans which are going out for a six-week consultation.

The Post Office says the relocation will allow a modern open-plan local-style branch with extended opening hours. It says the new Rawdon branch at the Londis store would offer products and services throughout shop opening hours from an open-plan till at the shop counter instead of from a separate screened counter. It is now inviting the public to have their say on the plans.

If the move goes ahead, the branch will open from 7.30am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and from 8.30am to 9pm on Sunday - more than double its hours of business to a total of 90 hours and 30 minutes per week.

The scheme is part of a modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

The consultation will close on December 2. Submissions can be made during the consultation by Freepost Your Comments to Post Office Ltd, via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk, via the Customer Helpline on 03457 22 33 44 or Textphone 03457 22 33 55.

Customers can also share their views online through a questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 300323.
