PUPILS are going to help their mums and dads become more involved in their school lives.

St Matthew’s CE Primary, in Mayo Avenue, Bradford, is working through a three-year action plan after gaining the Engaging Families Award in July.

Deputy headteacher Kay Remmer, is now heading up a steering group which is looking at how to become more involved with families.

She said: "Gaining the award was a very good start to our plans to better engage with families. The aim over the next three school years is to further improve our engagement and the pupils will help us to get our ideas across to their parents.

"We also expect that, as a result of more involvement, parents will be assisted to improve the support they give their children so they do better at school."

Between now and July 2016 the school will be helping parents overcome difficulties for them to work with the school, including working with Roma and traveller parents and pupils.

Headteacher Bob Curran said: "We are really excited about our plans for further improving how we engage with our parents and how they engage with us. We have already seen a positive outcome from the ways we already engage with parents."
