THERE is still time to nominate hard-working volunteers who make a difference in their neighbourhoods as part of the fifth annual Community Stars campaign.

But the deadline is fast approaching and if you do want to nominate someone for the awards, this must be done by Monday, September 28.

So far more than 50 people or organisations have been nominated for the 2015 awards.

This includes The Joshua Project, a children's charity based in Great Horton, which has been nominated in the community group category.

Founded in 2007 by a group of residents in Great Horton who wanted to see change brought about in the lives of the children and young people in their community, the trust has been running activities for children aged six to 11-year-olds over the summer holidays.

The nomination states: "The Joshua Project is based in the heart of the Great Horton community, providing local children, young people and families recreational, educational and family support.

"The children and young people we work with are from disadvantaged backgrounds and often don't have the opportunities that they deserve."

It continues: "As a children and young people's charity the project is committed to providing the best opportunities for children and young people from all backgrounds. We work alongside the community and other services to create opportunities for vulnerable children, young people and families to move beyond circumstances that limit life chances, and in a number of cases, life expectancy."

Activities on offer include youth sessions, art, sports, dance, drama, cooking and healthy eating, football training, gaming clubs, an under fives playgroup, and a mentoring service for children and young people with low esteem.

The honours are organised by the Telegraph & Argus and Bradford Council in an effort to ensure unsung heroes across the district are rewarded for their commitment.

Once the nominations close, they will then be whittled down by a panel of judges before Bradfordians can then vote for the most deserving winners in the six categories – Volunteer, Good Neighbour, Community Group, Fundraiser, Community Champion, and Young Active Citizen.

Winners in the six categories will be announced at a ceremony at City Hall on December 2, where they will each be presented with the Bradford Medal.
