Firefighters were called to a blaze on Ilkley Moor at around 5.15pm today. Around 500 square metres of moorland caught fire and dense smoke billowing from the burning bracken sparked concern about a possible repetition of last year's devastation. But a fire spokesman said last night's incident was on a much smaller scale. Grass beaters and two pumps were sent to the scene, about 1,000 metres from the tarn.
