A SPRIGHTLY 106-year-old former Otley and Burley-in-Wharfedale residents has been celebrating her latest birthday with family on Saturday.

Louie Piotrowski is well known at Duchess Gardens care centre in Bingley for her love of music and dancing.

Judith Midgley, activities co-ordinator at the care home, said: "She is still sprightly – she sings along and talks for England.

"She is very lively and still loves music. She even has a little dance while leaning on her zimmer frame."

Born in Leeds as the eldest of five, Mrs Piotrowski married Frank Yates in 1932, where they had two sons, Peter and Jim. The family moved to Otley in 1936.

She worked at Otley Hospital for many years and was a member of Huddersfield Choral Society and used to dance at Otley Mechanics Hall.

Her husband died in 1952 and she married Polish millworker, Ted Piotrowski, four year later. The couple moved to Burley-in-Wharfedale and Louie became the manager of Menston Hall flats for the elderly.

Ted passed away while Louie was in her early 90s and she carried on living on her own until the age of 103, when she then moved to Duchess Gardens.
