TWO Burley-in-Wharfedale residents would like to thank everyone who supported their Open Garden event on Friday.
Apart from a sudden shower at the start, the weather stayed fine, and it was a busy afternoon, with many visitors enjoying their look around the garden, sampling afternoon teas and buying crafts and plants.
The afternoon raised a fantastic £1,230, which will be donated to Burley Scouts and Guides, towards the development of their new headquarters in Peel Place. Girls from the 1st Burley Guides helped out on the afternoon.
l THE winner of this year's Burley-in-Wharfedale scarecrow trail was the magnificent creation from Amanda and Gary Bowkett, of Burley.
Scarecrow entries this year were based on the theme of ‘Around The World In 80 Scarecrows’, and the Bowkett's scarecrow depicts Phileas Fogg rescuing a princess on an elephant.
The popular trail and competition were open to all Burley residents, businesses and village organisations. Judging went on throughout the week of Burley Summer Festival and was carried out visitors.
