A PARK is to get a host of new equipment for all ages, thanks to a major funding boost.

A residents' association has secured a £46,000 community grant for Shipley Central Park.

The money, awarded by grant-giving body Wren, will see the small park between Westcliffe Road and St Paul's Road transformed with outdoor gym machines, children's play equipment and a new wildlife area.

Young visitors to the park will be able to enjoy a new trampoline, table tennis table and bucket swing.

For adults, there will also be five new pieces of outdoor gym equipment, including a bike, treadmill and cross trainer, while an extra 100m path will complete a circuit around the park for joggers.

A wild flower meadow will be created to improve biodiversity, and existing children's play equipment, like the swings and rockers, will be refurbished.

The grant will also fund a new community notice board as well as extra benches and picnic tables.

Hall Royd Area Residents' Association (HRARA) had applied for the funding, with support from Bradford Council.

The group spent two years consulting people in Shipley about the plans.

Joan Milligan, one of the residents involved in the project, said: "We are very pleased that our application to Wren was successful as their funding will help us improve the park for everyone in the area.

"There will be something for people of all ages and abilities so we are sure it will be well used.

"People are already looking forward to being able to use the new equipment, being able to walk all the way round and seeing the meadow grow."

Work on the project is due to begin this month, and the new equipment is expected to finished and ready to use by November.

Penny Beaumont, Wren’s grant manager for Yorkshire, said: "We are delighted to be supporting the Shipley Central Park improvement project and pleased our funding will have such a positive local impact.

"Wren is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to local communities and we’re really looking forward to seeing this one take shape soon."

Wren is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from funds donated by landfill operator FCC Environment, through the Landfill Communities Fund.
