SIR – It was disturbing to read the story in the T&A (August 28) regarding the mindless damage and anti-social behaviour in Cross Lane, Little Horton.

I lived in Lidget Green during the war years and would often visit the Plaza cinema.

As children we would play in Horton Park until late at night when the park ranger would lock the gates.

There were hundreds of army wagons and various other military vehicles parked up under the trees waiting to be moved down south for D-Day.

Cross Lane was my route to the Army Cadet training rooms in Bankfoot and we were not intimidated by the walk home on Cross Lane in the dark winter nights.

As the 65-year-old resident said, Cross Lane was once a peaceful neighbourhood.
