A PROJECT to create a book filled with photographs celebrating Bradford is going ahead thanks to support from Bradfordians and several local groups.

Project Bradford is the brainchild of Telegraph & Argus photographer Tom Smith, who has spent years documenting events in the district as part of his job.

He came up with the idea of bringing together images of the city and its people for a photography book. To fund the project he took to online crowdfunding website Kickstarter, as well as asking local groups for support.

As well as dozens of online supporters the project was given funding by the Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Joanne Dodds, who provided support from her Spread A Smile appeal.

Other groups to have sponsored the project include Intouch Advance in Saltaire, My Lahore cafe and restaurant, the Kirkgate Centre and the Muslim Women's Council.

Sales of the book will go towards the Bradford Burns Unit appeal.

There will be an exhibition of some of the photographs at Forster's Bistro in City Park on October 2, with the book being released later in the month.

Mr Smith said: "I'd like to thank people for their support, not just financially but to the people who raised awareness for it on social media. It is a look at some of the positive sides of Bradford, and well as a look at things people know about, but that we should maybe show off a little bit more."
