POLICE are hunting a man after a 22-year-old woman was sexually assaulted as she walked along a canal towpath.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the attack near the centre of Brighouse early today.

The incident occurred at about 6.40am as the 22-year-old woman was walking along the towpath.

The suspect is described as a white man, 5ft 9 to 6ft tall, aged 40-50, of medium build with a receding hair line.

Detective Sergeant Simon Archer, of Calderdale CID, said: "This incident took place in broad daylight, close to the town centre of Brighouse where there will have been people going about their business.

"The suspect has run from the towpath, across the Bethel Street car park in the direction of the market and I would appeal to anyone who was in and around the area who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to come forward as they may hold vital information."
