ORGANISERS of a jigsaw festival are hoping to piece together £9,000 for three causes.

The Charity Jigsaw Festival, held over the bank holiday weekend, included people making and displaying more than 1,200 of the puzzles.

It is the fourth year the festival has been held at St Martin's Parish Church, in Church Lane, Brighouse, which has space for up to 200 jigsaws to be displayed at once.

Proceeds from the event will be split between Together for Looked After Children, based in Calderdale, the pre-school group at St Martin's School and the after-school club at St Andrews Infants School, both in Brighouse.

Organiser Alan Sparks said around 700 people attend the popular event, which started on Friday, tackling children's, doubled-sided, crossword and £D jigsaws and impossipuzzles.

"It went very well," he said.

"People have travelled from Cheshire and all over Yorkshire.

"It had every sort of jigsaw that you could imagine. We got a lot of children coming in and getting jigsaws.

"It will take me a few days to have an idea of how much I raised. Last year we raised £9,000, so we will be looking to achieve at least that."
