THE widow of Keighley Cougars player Danny Jones brought Wembley to its feet ahead of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final by performing the traditional pre-match hymn Abide With Me.

Mrs Jones lost husband Danny in May when the Wales international collapsed during a game for Keighley against London Skolars. It was later discovered the 29-year-old had an undetected hereditary heart condition.

Mr Jones - who left twins Bobby and Phoebe, now aged eight months - played at Wembley for Wales in 2011 and on Saturday his wife stepped on to the same field at the national stadium.

Mrs Jones is a professional singer and performed the hymn as pictures of herself, Danny and their children were displayed on the stadium's two big screens.

She was then joined on the field by her twins to a standing ovation.

Since Danny Jones' death a fund set up to support his family has raised in excess of £230,000 and continues to grow.

When it was announced by the RFL that Mrs Jones would sing, she said: "It’s fantastic for me, I’m so excited and happy to be able to do something for Danny and to say thank you to the Rugby League community and to everybody who has helped and supported me since Danny died."

The Cougars' game against London Skolars has been rescheduled for tomorrow.
