A CAR ended up on its roof after the driver swerved to avoid an animal.

Two people had to be taken to hospital to be checked over, after the silver VW Golf flipped over at South Lane, Shelf, at about 11.45pm on Friday.

A spokesman for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said they sent a rapid response vehicle and two ambulances to the scene, after being called at 11.48pm.

She said: "We transported two patients to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. They weren't believed to be seriously injured but they did need to be checked over."
