BRADFORD Bulls is investigating after five flares were let off by away fans during the club's clash at Odsal.

The five flares were set off within the last ten minutes of the Bulls' Super 8 qualifying game against Salford Red Devils at the Provident Stadium.

The red smoke was ignited by a teenage Salford supporter who was watching with other away fans on terraces at the Rooley Lane side of the ground.

One Bulls fan, who was close to the teenager, said not enough was done by the club to deal with the youth's behaviour.

He filmed the flares being let off during the closing moments of Sunday's match, which the Bulls won 41-10.

The season ticket holder, who did not wish to be named, said: "I don't think the stewards did enough. I was disappointed with the way the stewards dealt with it.

"Nobody was moved out. The lad with the flare was hidden by a group of Salford fans.

"When the stewards came down towards him, he ran off."

He said the teenager looked about 16 or 17.

"One of the flares was held in his hand for a long period of time," he said.

"It could have caused someone to be seriously injured.

"Looking back now, it's what could have happened that's scary. It could have burned somebody's feet."

He said he had not seen such behaviour at a game before.

"Rugby league prides itself that it's a family-friendly game. This is not tolerated in this sport," he added.

A Bradford Bulls spokesman said: "The club is currently undertaking an internal investigation and we will be cooperating with the RFL and Salford in a wider investigation into the conduct of these people.

"Until the investigation is fulfilled nothing can be added at this time other than to say the club and the sport of Rugby League will not tolerate that type of mindless behaviour."

Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash has also condemned the behaviour.

"I won't defend the behaviour of the few idiots today and they will be dealt with," he wrote on Twitter yesterday.

"The vast majority of our fans were not involved."
