A MAN accused of escaping from police custody while receiving treatment at Bradford Royal Infirmary will have his case heard at Bradford Crown Court next month.

Aaron Fleming, 39, fled from officers on Sunday afternoon before being picked up by police 24 hours later in Halifax, Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.

Prosecutor Richard Davies said Fleming had absconded while still wearing handcuffs, as two police officers tasked with guarding him were talking to medical staff.

He had been detained in custody on two charges of common assault against his former partner, Amy Miller, alleged to have taken place on August 5 and 13.

Fleming, of Cleveleys Avenue, Sowerby Bridge, pleaded not guilty to the assault charges and will stand trial for the two alleged offences at the same court next Wednesday.

His solicitor advocate Ian Hudson indicated Fleming would plead guilty to escaping while in police custody when that charge is brought before Bradford Crown Court on September 1.
