AN ELDWICK artist is hosting a new exhibition of portraits at Shipley Library.

Malcolm Stead has created around 30 pieces to be put on display in the library's art gallery, centred on models from his weekly art class in Bingley.

Mr Stead, who has previously specialised in portraits of Elvis Presley, said: "None of the pieces have ever been seen before and I've mainly used models who take part in my classes.

"There are a couple of famous faces in there though, such as Marilyn Monroe and Agnetha Fältskog from Abba.

"I might even try and sneak an Elvis portrait in there too."

Mr Stead said he studied at Bradford College of Art in the early 1950s, the same time as the revered artist David Hockney.

He showcased his last full Elvis exhibition last summer, after five decades of painting the king of rock 'n' roll since the late 1950s.

He teaches an art class at the Little House community centre in Bingley from 7pm to 9pm on Friday evenings, with new models and members always welcome.

The exhibition runs until Friday, August 14.
