A 27-YEAR-OLD man who grew cannabis to dull the pain of injuries caused in a road accident has been spared an immediate jail sentence.
Anthony Rogivska, of Reevy Road West, Buttershaw, Bradford, was caught with 30 cannabis plants in his bedroom on January 11, Bradford Crown Court heard today.
He pleaded guilty to production of the Class B drug and possession of it at a later date.
The court heard that Rogivska's crop had a potential street value of £14,000.
Judge Jonathan Rose accepted that he was growing it for his own use to self-medicate for back problems and arthritis.
But he told Rogivska to see his doctor about other forms of pain relief.
"If you are caught with cannabis once more, you will go to prison," he warned him.
Rogivska was sentenced to 13 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with a 30 day activity requirement and a four month curfew order.
