CITY were beaten 2-0 in their final pre-season friendly by Championship side Burnley this afternoon.

New signing Paul Anderson travelled with the squad to Turf Moor but was not involved.

Instead he watched an open game which saw his new club have the best early chances. The match was Michael Duff's testimonial and the home defender produced a goal-saving intervention to keep out Josh Morris' header.

Then Rory McArdle’s header from the corner was blocked in front of the line by David Jones.

Ben Williams pulled off a good save to deny Jelle Vossen's half volley but the home striker should have scored when George Boyd's crosss landed at his feet right in front of goal.

Williams was in fine form again to keep out a downward header from Lukas Jutkiewicz. But Burnley's growing pressure was rewarded after 33 minutes when Jutkiewicz had his revenge by turning on Michael Kightly's pass and beating Williams with an angled finish.

James Hanson almost had an immediate response but poked the ball inches wide of the post from Billy Clarke's pass.

McMahon then rattled the bar with a free-kick and Hanson's follow-up header was denied as Burnley survived a scramble.

Jussi Jaaskelainen replaced Williams in goal for the second half and was quickly in the action to save from Vossen.

McMahon threatened again from a set-piece which Tom Heaton tipped over the bar. But opposite number Jaaskelainen nearly had an uncomfortable moment with George Boyd's long-range effort.

Chris Routis and Hanson both threatened an equaliser before Burnley doubled their lead with a superb free-kick from sub Matt Taylor - only two minutes after coming on for the injured Fred Ulvestad.

Jaaskelainen appeared to make an excellent finger-tip save from Sam Vokes, who had been set up by the excellent George Boyd, although referee Ben Toner gave a goal kick.
