ANOTHER £1,000 has been raised for the Bradford Burns Unit's 30th anniversary appeal at a six-a-side football tournament and family fun day.

Scholemoor Beacon and Bradford Council's youth service combined to host the event at Scholemoor sports stadium.

Matthew Milnes, community sports activities worker for Scholemoor Beacon, said 13 teams comprising of more than 90 players - aged between 16 and mid-50s - competed, with The Gallopers beating Vanquis Bank on penalties in the final.

"We are really happy with the money raised and how the day went," said Mr Milnes. "It was a wet day but people still came out and supported it. There were more teams than we anticipated and it was played in a really good spirit.

"There had to be a winner, but every team that took part was a winner. Thank you to them all for contributing and taking part. We are hoping it will become an annual event."

Mr Milnes said the event was the brainchild of a local community neighbourhood warden who is a big Bradford City fan.

Mr Milnes also thanked Provident Financial, Biscayne Properties, The Pantry sandwich shop and Lidget Green Walking Club for their sponsorship.
