TV chef Ainsley Harriott cooked up a storm in City Park today with an onion bhaji taste test.

The popular star cooked up a bunch of onion bhajis, with or without a peach chutney, from a caravan in City Park.

Then Len Goodman, head judge from Strictly Come Dancing, handed them out to the crowd that had assembled in a wet Centenary Square.

Saira Jabeen, manager of the Pavilion Cafe Bar, Bradford, said: "I got to try one of the bhajis and they were nice. There were quite a lot of people there.

"They wanted to know if the bhajis Ainsley was cooking were as good as the ones people were used to in Bradford."

Mr Harriott also cooked vegetable pakora using exotic fruit and spices with a special sauce that he states he originally made on a tour of Pakistan.

Khalil Alam, 38, of Leicester Street, East Bowling, said: "I tasted the pakora that was clearly cooked to perfection, and reminded me of my mother's cooking but I did tell Ainsley it was was not as spicy as it should be. He cooked it in about three minutes.

"I also told him I still thought my mum's cooking was better, to which he burst out in laughter. He took it in good spirits really."

The visit to Bradford was part of the duo's programme called Taste of Britain which will shown on the BBC in the coming months.

The duo's next stop was Lumb Lane in Bradford where they cooked at the Sweet Centre restaurant and takeaway.
