NORTHERN Rail - which runs trains on the Airedale line - is celebrating another award.

It has just won the Environmental Improvement in Passenger Transport Award at this year’s North West Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Awards.

As well as taking the environmental title for its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, Northern had finalists in four other categories.

Samantha Dunn, data and information manager, was a finalist in the Young Transport Manager of the Year category, and interim head of operational safety Mark Shepherd was named a finalist in the Service to the Transport Industry category.

Northern’s GPS project was recognised in the Transport Policy and Planning category and its engineering team was shortlisted for the Best Practice for Passenger Transport category.

Alex Hynes, managing director of Northern, said: “Once again we have seen success and recognition for all the hard work we put into providing the north of England with a railway to be proud of. Our efforts in sustainability continue to receive accolades with other areas of the business receiving deserved praise as well.”

The North West CILT Awards dinner was held at The Midland Hotel in Manchester.
