A FILM fan has gone Back to the Future for his latest car creation.

Mike Hutchinson, 37, has spent about £20,000 turning his car into a replica of the DeLorean used by Marty McFly in the 1985 cult film.

Inspired by the 30th anniversary of the first instalment of the trilogy starring Michael J Fox, Mr Hutchinson has spent hundreds of hours painstakingly researching each of the parts used in the original car.

The work has taken him two years to complete and the conversion work includes castings from the original car which is in Universal Studios in Hollywood.

The vehicle now comes complete with time circuits where people can be 'transported' back to their birthdate.

Many of the parts for the car, which Mr Hutchinson bought for £20,000 in 2013, were shipped over from the US.

He now plans to display it at sci-fi shows and events across the country, including the Bradford Classic Car Show in City Park on Saturday, August 15.

He also saw his heroes from the movie, including Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd, at the London Film and Comic Con earlier this month.

Mr Hutchinson, who is a member of the DeLorean Owners Club, also has a copy of the yellow van used by Del Boy in the Only Fools and Horses TV comedy series.

Mr Hutchinson, who is a mortgage and protection adviser for a firm in Bingley, said: "The film is a real passion for me. I was seven when it came out.

"I have seen the film hundreds of times and know it off by heart.

"It has always been a big film and this year marks the 30th anniversary since the original one came out.

"It has not been a cheap car.

"I needed to get quite a lot of parts. I would research them for four or five hours each night. It took up hundreds of hours. A lot of them were vintage aircraft parts, they were all weird and wonderful parts. There were quite a lot of them.

"There are only about four converted DeLoreans in the country. The other three are in the south, mine is the furthest north.

"I would call myself a car lover. I'm not going to sell the car, it would take a lot of money for me to even think about it.

"It's going across the country. My family love it. My dad helped with the work on it too. I had it for about six months before I decided to convert it.

"I have not drilled any holes in the car so that the whole thing can be put back to a stock DeLorean car within an hour."

His long-suffering partner of 14 years, Claire Bailey, 35, said: "I'm used to it. Its his hobby. It's no harm. At least I know where he is working on his car and not down the pub every night.

"It's taken him a long time to do it. I just leave him to it. Our children, Megan, seven, and Joel, five, love Back to the Future too."

The DeLorean DMC-12 is an American sports car manufactured by John DeLorean's DeLorean Motor Company for the US market from 1981 to 1983.
