DETECTIVES were last night questioning two men arrested on suspicion of murdering a 32-year-old man in Bradford.

The victim, named by police as Leroy Vanzie, was found with severe head injuries on the pavement outside the block of flats where he lived in Corban Street, Dudley Hill.

Paramedics rushed to the scene on Tuesday night and he was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The two men, aged 25 and 36, who were arrested on suspicion of Mr Vanzie's murder, remained in police custody last night.

Detectives and forensic teams spent much of yesterday at the scene, outside the modern, stone-built block of six flats, in a quiet side street close to Dudley Hill roundabout.

Officers were carrying out door-to-door inquiries on the street. Three police cars were parked at the scene, along with a forensic support van.

Bunches of flowers were left on the pavement.

One had a hand-written message which read: "You're in Heaven now, love you. To my beautiful brother Leroy. We will miss you always You will always remain in our hearts. Love always Shirley, Romelluw and Tamesha."

Another read: “Leroy, I can’t find the word to say how devastated I am. I will never forget your beautiful smile. R.I.P Kelly and Karl.”

And third stated: “The gates have opened for you my friend. Fly high and rest in peace for always. Joanne and Marcus x”

A builder working on a site opposite the flats told how he saw the emergency services trying to revive Mr Vanzie after he was found at about 7.30pm on Tuesday.

Reid Nutter said: "I was some distance away. There were two ambulances and a lot of police.

"I did not know he was dead. I saw the paramedics with the victim.

"I kept my distance from it. There were paramedics everywhere and they were covered in blood.

"There was an awful lot of police."

Maintenance worker Davinder Singh, 46, who lives in Corban Street, described how the paramedics desperately tried to revive Mr Vanzie for about 20 minutes at the scene before he was taken to hospital.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed they had started a murder investigation after they were called to Corban Street to a man with head injuries.

A spokesman said: "The man, aged 32, was taken to hospital, but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

"Following inquiries, two men aged 25 and 36, were arrested on suspicion of murder. Both remain in custody while inquiries are continuing."

The arrests were made at separate addresses in Bradford late on Tuesday.

It is not thought that a weapon was used during the incident. The motive is unclear.

Toni Dominik, who had been a neighbour of Mr Vanzie's for only two months, paid tribute to him.

She said: "I was in shock at first about what had happened.

"He was one of those people that when you met him you would not forget him.

"He was lovely. He was upbeat whatever was going on with him. He was always playing his music in his flat all of the time.

"He loved Madonna and Kylie Minogue. He was always jumping about and dancing.

"I knew him for a couple of months."

Tributes to Mr Vanzie have also been left by neighbours and friends on the Telegraph & Argus’ Facebook page.

Kirsty Helstrip New posted: “Rip Leroy you will be missed all my heart thoughts and love are with u and your family Crystal Vanzie xxx”

Kimberley Handforth added: “So sad great lad evil world thoughts to all his family.”
