THOUSANDS of teenagers will descend on the city centre next year when the University of Bradford hosts a major event for prospective students.

The UCAS Higher Education Convention for West and North Yorkshire involves almost every university in the UK.

It is held for pupils planning to attend university the following year who want to see what the different institutions have to offer.

The event has been held at Leeds Beckett University for the past 15 years, but after a push from the University of Bradford, UCAS decided to hold it in Bradford in 2016.

It will take place over two days in June at the city centre campus.

Schools from across Yorkshire will be sending coachloads of students to the fair, which will be attended by 150 universities and also include seminars information on the university application process.

Director of External Affairs at the University Mark Garratt, said: "We've worked tirelessly to get the fair to be held in Bradford. It will mean up to 15,000 prospective students coming to Bradford, including a lot who will have never been to the city before.

"The people from the universities stay over, so we'll be showing them around Bradford, it is a real chance to showcase the city and our campus to other universities."
