POLICE were called to a park in Thornton after receiving reports that a large group of youths had gathered.

Officers went to a recreation ground off Royd Street at about 7.40pm on Tuesday.

One local, who did not want to be named, said a teenage girl was being targeted, adding: "This girl did not know what was going on.

"There were about 50 youths. You should have seen the crowd - buses were full. It was scary. People said they had never seen anything like it.

"We are a small village. We don't want this up here."

Yesterday, Sergeant Emma Rowbottom, of the Bradford West Area Neighbourhood Team, said: "Police were called to Royd Street, Thornton at about 7.41pm yesterday after receiving a report of youths congregating at the location.

"Officers attended and spoke to the youths, who subsequently left the area.
