BRADFORD Teaching Hospitals’ staff braved the hottest day of the year to join in the Walk for Wards event helping raise funds.

The 6.5 mile circular trek started at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) and around 15 hospital staff raised more than £500 for Bradford Hospitals Charity (BHC).

BHC fundraiser Hayley Collis said: "The idea of Walk for Wards was to engage with our local community and for staff to do something for their favourite ward or department."

Some staff chose to run the circuit down to Saltaire and through Heaton Woods, along with Louise Clarkson who coordinates the hospital’s running club, while staff gym instructors Paul Harland and Danny Lane supported walkers along the route.

The Bowel Cancer Screening team, based at BRI, also joined in and raised funds for the Ward 15 oncology ward.

“Ward 15 has recently refurbished its reception area and the money the team raised may go to enhancing this space with some photographic artwork,” said Mrs Collis.

Anyone wanting to raise funds for their favourite ward at the BRI, St Luke’s or any of the Foundation Trust’s four community hospitals, can still register at walkforwards.co.uk, e-mail charity@bthft.nhs.uk or call BHC on 01274 274809.
